BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team opened the 2017 season by defeating Illinois Wesleyan University 6-3.
Elmhurst (1-0, 1-0 CCIW) picked up the victory by winning four singles contests and two doubles matches.Â
In doubles play, Elmhurst's duo of Kathtryn Wheeler and
Chiara Gaudio defeated Gail Mar and Kayleigh Ruffolo 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Bluejays' No. 3 team of
Pamela Kobeszko and
Dacey Maglaque defeated Samantha Robinson and Alyssa Cholewinski 8-3.Â
Illinois Wesleyan (0-2, 0-2 CCIW) scored wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Elmhurst swept the final four. IWU's Lauren Neitzel downed Elmhurst's Chiara Gaudio 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Megan Hippe followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Elmhurst's
Ysabel Gonzaga at No. 2. The Bluejays won the next four contests with Rachel Rettger scoring a 6-2, 6-4 win over Mar at No. 3 singles and Wheeler following with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Robinson at No. 4. Maglaque upended Ruffolo 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 while
Meg Simon downed Cholewinski 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst plays at Millikin on Sunday, September 10.Â
