CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team fell to 4-2-2 on the year following a hard-fought 3-1 loss at top-ranked University of Chicago.
Looking for its second straight win over a top-25 opponent in the same week, the Bluejays hung right with Chicago for the first 40 minutes, keeping the Marrons off the scoreboard in the process.
Chicago (8-0) struck just before the half, scoring on a Sam Drablos goal with just 1:46 left in the first half. The Maroons made it 2-0 less than five minutes into the second half when Drablos headed home his second goal of the game.
Elmhurst answered back less than two minutes later.
Angel Carreno put Elmhurst on the scoreboard and sliced Chicago's lead in half. The Bluejays had three straight corner kicks over the next six minutes but could not score the equalizer.
Chicago put the game away with a Max Lopez goal in the 71st minute.
Chicago outshot Elmhurst 19-5 in the contest, but the Bluejays held a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.
Nick King took the loss in goal for Elmhurst despite recording six saves.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play on Wednesday, September 27, by traveling to Augustana College.
