Baseball Team Tips IIT in 10 Innings

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team scored twice in the top of the 10th inning to edge IIT 7-6 for the Bluejays' 20th victory of the season.

Elmhurst built an early 4-1 lead, cashing in on two IIT errors in the fifth to turn a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead. A Matt Wilson single in the top of the seventh, pushed Elmhurst's lead up to three runs.

IIT took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four times with just three hits to take a 5-4 lead. Elmhurst  pulled even in the top of the eighth. Karson Thomas led off the inning with a single before being lifted for a pinch runner. Colin Winston's RBI double two batters later brought the Bluejays even at 5-5.

Elmhurst threatened in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but a pop out and a fly out ended the scoring chance. IIT had a chance to win the contest in the bottom of the ninth, putting the game-winning run on second with just one out, but Christian Grabowski used a strikeout and pop out to end the inning.

Elmhurst jumped back in front in the 10th. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with no out. A.J. Compton singled to center to drive in Winston and an IIT error allowed Brandon Kressner to score as well, putting the Bluejays up 7-5.

IIT got a run back on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and the Scarlett Hawks brought the tying run to third, but Zack Ferrell used a fly out to end the contest for the Bluejays.
