Illinois Wesleyan sits in first at 13-8 overall while Carthage is in sixth place with a 12-10 record.Â
Carroll (11-25, 6-16 CCIW) built a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and adding another in the third. Elmhurst cut the lead in half on a
Ben Havel solo homer to left field in the third. The Bluejays left runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Elmhurst broke things open in the sixth.Â
A hit batter, a walk and an error loaded the bases for the Bluejays with no outs. Carroll picked up back-to-back strikeouts, but
Brandon Kressner delivered a two-out, two-run single to put Elmhurst in front 3-2. Havel followed with a two-run double to center to put the Bluejays in front by three.Â
Nick Drago did the rest for Elmhurst, setting down the Pioneers in order in the seventh and eighth innings and allowing just one single in the ninth en route to the complete game victory. Drago scattered 10 hits and allowed just two earned runs while notching his second win of the season. He walked two and fanned five.Â
Havel, Kressner,
Trey Compton and
Evan Berliner recorded two hits apiece in the Elmhurst win, accounting for all eight of the Bluejays hits. Havel knocked in a team-leading three runs while Kressner drove in two. With the three RBIs, Havel moved into second-place in Elmhurst history with 139 for his career.Â
