Elmhurst Downs North Park For 12th CCIW Win

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team pounded out 15 hits while completing a three-game series sweep of North Park University with a 10-5 victory.

Elmhurst upped its record to 19-16 overall and 12-9 in the CCIW with the win, moving a half-game in front of Wheaton in the CCIW standings for the fourth and final spot in the upcoming CCIW baseball tournament. 

Trey Compton, Jacob McMillan and Evan Berliner collected three hits apiece in Elmhurst's victory. McMillan scored two runs and added an RBI while Compton and Berliner drove in two runs apiece. Ben Havel and Matt Wilson added two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the victory. 

Elmhurst scored five runs over the last four innings to break a 5-5 tie and pull away for the win. 

With the score even at 5-5, Evan Berliner put the Bluejays in front with an RBI triple. Brandon Kressner followed with a sacrifice fly to score Berliner and put Elmhurst up by a pair. Trey Compton singled home two runs in the seventh to push Elmhurst's lead up to four. An RBI double from Jacob McMillan in the ninth capped Elmhurst's scoring. 

Nathan Tovell upped his record to 3-1 on the season while tossing 5.2 innings and scattering seven hits and five runs. Tovell walked two while striking out two. Daryl Rivera recorded the save in relief, shutting out North Park over the final 3.1 innings. Rivera allowed just one hit while walking one and striking out one. 

Elmhurst plays at the Illinois Institute of Technology on Tuesday, May 2.
