ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team opened the CCIW portion of its schedule by blasting Carroll University 21-1 at Langhorst Field.

Matt Westhaver and Mike Fotylin combined for 13 goals to lead the Bluejays' onslaught.

Elmhurst (5-6, 1-0 CCIW needed less than 90 seconds to get on the scoreboard as
Ty Funderburk found Harden open for his first goal of the contest. Three minutes later, Foytlin hit the back of the net on an assist from Funderburk to put the Bluejays up 2-0. Elmhurst rattled of a flurry of goals in a 3:19 span, stretching their lead from two to seven. Westhaver struck for his first goal of the game on a Harden assist with 8:40 remaining. Harden added back-to-back goals at 7:24 and 6:38 to extend the Bluejays lead to 5-0.
Jake Cambron scored off a
Dan O'Connell assist with 5:17 remaining in the first.
Carter Meyer promptly won the ensuing faceoff, raced into the attack zone and fed Funderburk for a goal just five seconds after Cambron scored. O'Connell tacked on a goal with 3:51 left in the in opening quarter to give the Bluejays a commanding 8-0 lead.

Westhaver needed just 19 seconds into the second quarter to record his second goal of the contest, giving Elmhurst a 9-0. Carroll scored just one minute later as Dannon Ivey scored off a Paul Kerchberger feed to end the Bluejays' scoring run.

Elmhurst responded by ripping off nine straight goals over the final 13 minutes of the first half to take a commanding 18-1 lead into halftime. Harden and Westhaver added two goals apiece in the Bluejays' 9-0 run while Foytlin rattled off three straight goals.
Eric Langston and
Nathan Klimek also found the back of the net in the second quarter.

The Bluejays slowed the pace in the second half but used goals from
Andrew Lentz and
Jackson Mandli, along with an own-goal on the Pioneers, to make the final score 21-1.

Elmhurst dominated the contest from start to finish, spending the majority of the time on the offensive side of the field. The Bluejays outshot Carroll 40-6 and had a 50-11 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst was successful on 12-of-13 clearing attempts while Carroll converted just 8-of-14 attempts.

Harden paced Elmhurst's attack with five goals and four assists, finishing with nine points, the second-highest single-game total in Elmhurst history. Westhaver added six points on four goals and two assists while Foytlin registered five points with four goals and an assist. Funderburk (one goal, three assists), Klimek (one goal, one assist) and O'Connell (one goal, one assist) all finished with multiple points in the Elmhurst win. Meyer won 20-of-26 faceoffs and registered a team-best 15 ground balls in the victory. The 15 ground-balls matched the single-game Elmhurst record.
Nick Bonastia and
Noah Bachofen combined to allow just one goal over 60 minutes of action. Bonastia allowed one goal and recorded one save while playing in the first half. Bachofen stopped three shots and did not allow a goal in the second half.
