ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team slipped to 1-1 in the CCIW following an 11-5 loss to Carthage College.

Elmhurst (5-7, 1-1 CCIW) jumped out to a fast start, building a 3-1 lead, but Carthage (10-3, 3-0 CCIW) rattled off seven straight goals to open up a five-goal lead and gain control of the contest.

Mac Harden started the scoring for the Bluejays with his 23rd goals of the season midway through the first quarter. Carthage answered back four minutes later on an Andy Szun goal to even the score at 1-1.
Ty Funderburk netted a pair of goals just 34 seconds apart late in the quarter to give the Bluejays a 3-1 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the first. Carthage cut the lead down to one on an Andrew Krom goal with just 14 seconds left on the clock in the first.

The Red Men took over in the second period, outshooting Elmhurst 11-1 and scoring five goals to build a 7-3 lead at halftime. Szun scored early in the third quarter to put the Red Men in front by five at 8-3.

Elmhurst took advantage of a Carthage penalty to slice the deficit down to four after Jacob Cambron scored off a feed from Funderburk on an extra-man advantage. Carthage used goals late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to extend their lead to six at 10-4 with 13 minutes remaining in the contest.
Elmhurst added one last score on a
Matt Westhaver goal with four minutes remaining. Szun tacked on an extra-man goal with just under 90 seconds to play to make the final score in favor of Carthage.

Carthage outshot Elmhurst 32-23, including a 20-7 edge between the second and third quarters. The Red Men finished with a 30-20 edge in groundballs.

Funderburk led Elmhurst's offense in the loss with three points, totaling two goals and an assist.
Carter Meyer won 8-of-14 faceoffs and recorded a team-leading seven ground balls.
Nick Bonastia recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bluejays.

Szun led Carthage's attack with six points, finishing with five goals and an assist. Andrew Krom added four points on two goals and two assists. Ryan Smith recorded 11 saves in goal to earn the win for Carthage.
