Bluejays Drop Matchup with Augie

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team kept pace with Augustana for much of the first half, but fell to the Vikings 13-3.

Elmhurst (2-12, 1-3 CCIW) started off strong, converting its first two clear attempts and taking a 1-0 lead on a Grace Knoebel free-position shot.

Augustana (8-5, 5-0 CCIW) used a pair of runs to take control. The Vikings scored the next four goals before Knoebel pulled Elmhurst within two with her second tally of the game. The visitors netted the final three goals of the period to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.

The Vikings outshot the Bluejays 12-5 and were a perfect 4-of-4 on clear attempts in the first half. The two teams both picked up 11 ground balls.

Knoebel added her third goal of the game early in the second half to pull Elmhurst within four, but the Vikings scored the next six to pull away and stay unbeaten in conference play.

Knoebel posted all three of Elmhurst's goals in the contest. Annette Stidham and Sam Sepke both added three ground balls, while Megan Keener made five saves.

The Vikings put 20 of their 22 shots on goal, while Elmhurst did so on nine of its 12. The teams were virtually even in turnovers (15-14 Elmhurst advantage) and ground balls (18-17 Augustana edge).

Anne Hopkins scored a game-high five goals to power the Vikings. Analia Fowler and Madalynne Russell combined to stop six shots.
