ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team banged out 15 hits, including three home runs, in a 9-5 win over Dominican University at Butterfield Park.

Elmhurst improved to 15-12 on the season while Dominican slipped to 8-17 overall.

The Bluejays wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard. Elmhurst batted around in the first inning and scored four runs to race out to an early lead.Â
A.J. Compton started the scoring with an RBI single.
Austin MacMillan drove in a run on a grounder to short that was mishandled, allowing MacMillan to reach first in the process.
Matt Wilson and
Travis Pickard added RBI singles in the first for Elmhurst.

Dominican used a two-out double steal with runners on the corners to score a run in the top of the second, but Elmhurst took the run right back in the bottom of the third. With Wilson on second and one out,
Matt Conroy singled up the middle. The ball was bobbled by the Dominican outfield, allowing Wilson to come around and score.

Elmhurst broke out the lumber in the fourth, going back-to-back-to-back.
Reagan McReynolds started the inning with a solo homer to right.
Brandon Kressner greeted new Dominican pitcher Alexander Garcia with a solo shot down the left field line.
Ben Havel followed with a monstrous shot over the left-center field wall to put Elmhurst in front 8-1.

Dominican would not go away, scoring a run in the fifth and adding two in the sixth on a two-run Mike Piotrowski home run. The Stars added a run in the seventh to pull to within three at 8-5. Elmhurst pushed its lead back to four on a two-out, run-scoring single from Pickard in the bottom of the seventh.

Conroy finished 3-for-4 at the plate for the Bluejays while McReynolds, Havel, Wilson and Pickard collected two hits apiece. McReynolds and Havel scored two runs each while Pickard drove in two.

Jordan Scrimpsher picked up his first collegiate victory from the mound. The Elmhurst freshman worked five innings, allowing just two hits and two runs. He walked six while striking out one.
Christian Grabowski pitched the final three innings to record his first save. Grabowski allowed just three hits and one unearned run while fanning three.

Dominican's Colton Malich took the loss, working three innings and allowing nine hits and six runs (three earned). Piotrowski was the only Stars' player to collect multiple hits in the contest, finishing with two.
