BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team split a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan University to up its CCIW record to 8-4.

Elmhurst dropped the opener 14-5 but rebounded from the loss to down the Titans 7-2 in game two. The Bluejays improved to 14-11 overall while the Titans moved to 15-11 overall and 8-4 in the league play.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 14, ELMHURST 9 (Game One) – Elmhurst scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Titans outscored the Bluejays 14-2 the rest of the way en route to the nine-run victory.

Elmhurst grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first when
A.J. Compton blasted a three-run homer. The Titans got a run back in the bottom of the first before hanging four runs on the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.
Ben Havel's RBI single in the top of the fifth pulled Elmhurst to within a run at 5-4, but the Titans scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead 7-4. The Titans tacked on two more in the sixth to build a five-run cushion at 9-4. A
Reagan McReynolds RBI single in the seventh accounted for the Bluejays' final run of the game. The Titans tacked on three runs in the bottom of the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth for the 14-5 win.

Evan Berliner recorded two of Elmhurst's nine hits in the loss while also scoring two runs. Compton drove in a team-best three runs. Nick Figus led the Titans at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Garrett Shea added three hits, drove in two and scored two for IWU.

Nick Drago made the start from the mound and took the loss for Elmhurst, working 5.1 innings and allowing 11 hits and four earned runs. He walked two while striking out one. Matt Banaitis earned the win for the Titans, working eight innings and allowing nine hits and four earned runs. He fanned five while not issuing a walk.

ELMHURST 7, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2 (Game Two) – A.J. Compton drove in three and
Matt Wilson knocked in two to help the Bluejays salvage game two 7-2.

Compton started the scoring for Elmhurst in the top of the third with an RBI single. Wilson added a two-run single in the inning to stake Elmhurst to a quick 3-0 lead.
The Titans scored twice in the bottom of the inning to pull to within one, but Elmhurst answered back with a run-scoring single from Havel in the fourth to push Elmhurst's lead back to two at 4-2.
A sacrifice fly from
Evan Berliner in the seventh gave Elmhurst a three-run cushion and Compton helped put the game out of reach with a two-run double in the eighth.

Reagan McReynolds finished 3-for-4 with a run scored while
Austin MacMillan, Compton and Wilson recorded two hits apiece for the Bluejays.

Nathan Tovell made the start from the mound and went the distance, tossing a complete game and allowing just six hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out three while improving to 1-1 on the season.
