AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team split a doubleheader with Hamilton College on the Bluejays' spring break trip to Florida. Elmhurst dropped the opener 8-7 but rallied to take the second game 4-0.
HAMILTON 8, ELMHURST 7 (Game One) - Elmhurst erased a four-run deficit over the final two innings, but Hamilton scored the 8-7 walk-off victory on a Ryan Wolfsberg base hit.Â
Hamilton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but Elmhurst took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth.
A.J. Compton started the scoring with a bases-loaded single to drive in
Brandon Kressner. A fielders choice from
Trey Compton drove in a second run and
Christian Ott's RBI single gave Elmhurst a 3-1 lead.Â
The Bluejays lead did not last as Hamilton broke through for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go in front 4-3. Hamilton tacked on three more runs in the fifth to extend its lead to four.
Elmhurst battled back to tie the contest. The Bluejays plated two runs in the sixth on
Jacob McMillan's two-run double. Elmhurst evened the scored in the top of the seventh when
A.J. Compton connected on a two-run homer.Â
Hamilton earned the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out bases-loaded RBI single from Wolfsberg.
A.J. Compton finished with two hits and three RBIs in the loss while
Ben Havel and Ott banged out two hits apiece for Elmhurst.
Jordan Scrimpsher made the start and took a no-decision, tossing three innings and allowing just two hits and three runs (two earned). He walked five and struck out three.
Christian Grabowski took the loss in relief, surrendering one hit and one run in the ninth inning.Â
ELMHURST 4, HAMILTON 0 (Game Two) - Austin MacMillan limited Hamilton to just four hits while tossing a complete-game shutout in game two.Â
MacMillan tossed a gem, allowing just the four hits while allowing just one runner to reach second base. He did not issue a walk and struck out five.Â
The Bluejays grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Havel. The Bluejays tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth on an bases loaded walk to Kressner and a two-run single from Havel.
Havel finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Elmhurst while driving in three runs.Â
Elmhurst has tomorrow off before taking on Worcester State on Thursday, March 23.Â
