WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team pounded out 23 hits and plated 24 runs while cruising past Union (N.Y.) 24-1 in the team's third game of its spring break trip to Florida.
Elmhurst wasted no time putting the game away. The Bluejays sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first and scored eight runs. A two-run single from
Jacob McMillan and a bases clearing double from
Brandon Kressner helped spark the eight-run frame.Â
Elmhurst tacked on a pair of runs in the second and four in the third to extend their lead to 14-1. A two-run double from
Ben Havel and an RBI double from
Austin MacMillan sparked the four-run outburst in the third.Â
The Bluejays tacked on three unearned runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to blow the game open with a 19-1 lead. The Bluejays added a run in the eighth and four more in the ninth, scoring runs in seven of the nine innings.Â
Thirteen different Bluejays collected hits in the victory. MacMillan led the way, finishing 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Kressner added three hits, scored three runs and knocked in four in the win. Havel finished with two hits, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored while
Reagan McReynolds banged out two hits, scored four runs and drove in two.
Jordan Scrimpsher added and
Matt Conroy added two hits apiece with Scrimpsher driving in three in the victory.Â
Havel picked up his second victory of the season from the mound as well. The Elmhurst senior worked six innings and allowed just one hit and one earned run. He walked four while striking out eight.
Alex Kielion and
Adam Price combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief, allowing a combined three hits and one walk.
Elmhurst (4-5) plays a doubleheader against Hamilton College on Tuesday, March 21.Â
