Women's Lacrosse Team Falls to Northwestern

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst College women's lacrosse team slipped to 0-4 on the season following a 14-1 loss to the University of Northwestern (Minn.)
 
Northwestern (6-1) controlled the action early, outshooting the Bluejays' 18-6 in the first 30 minutes while racing out to an 8-1 halftime lead.  Jodi Bertrand staked the Eagles to an early 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. Annie Ellis and Talia Sherry tacked on goals to make it 3-0 with 18:53 left in the half. Jenny Chamberlin's goal with 14:49 gave the Eagles a four-goal cushion. Hannah Shands scored three straight goals for the Eagles in a five-minute span to extend the squad's lead up to seven. Jordyn Broberg's goal with 7:43 put Northwestern in front 8-0. Elmhurst ended the Eagles' scoring run late in the half as Grace Knoebel netted her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Ellen Brown.
 
The Eagles scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to open up a 12-1 lead before pulling away for the 13-goal win.
 
Knoebel accounted for Elmhurst's only goal while leading the team in shots with six and co-leading the squad in ground balls with three. She also caused four turnovers on the day. Brown finished with an assist and a team-leading five caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls. Taylor Davitt, Jena Varda and Annette Stidham all totaled three ground balls apiece in the loss. Megan Keener played all 60 minutes in goal for the Bluejays and took the loss while recording 10 saves.
 
Shands powered Northwestern's offense with six points, finishing with four goals and two assists to go along with eight draw controls and five ground balls. Chamberlain added four points on two goals and two assists while totaling eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. Sydney Werlein earned the win in goal by recording seven saves.
 
Northwestern outshot Elmhurst 30-10 and maintained a slim 23-21 edge in ground balls. The Eagles won 12-of-17 draw controls.
 
Elmhurst plays at Loras College on March 21, at 6:00 p.m.
