BELOIT, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team dropped its 2017 season-opening contest by falling 6-2 at Beloit College.
The game was low-scoring for nearly for the majority of the contest as only one goal was scored in the first 48 minutes of action. Beloit's Keala Evans scored with 16:05 left in the opening half to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead at the half.
The score remained 1-0 until Casey Ryan found the back of the net with 11:28 left remaining in the second. Evans scored her second goal of the game just 1:11 later to give Beloit a three-goal cushion.
Ellen Brown put the Bluejays on the scoreboard by scoring her first of the season with 9:40 left on the clock. Beloit answered back less than a minute later with a Hannah Drexler goal to reestablish a three-goal cushion.Â
After playing the first half in goal for the Bluejays,
Grace Knoebel played the field in the second and scored her first collegiate goal with 7:58 remaining. Beloit added two goals in the final seven minutes to pull away for the 6-2 victory.
Beloit outshot Elmhurst (0-1) 15-13 in the win and owned a 19-13 edge in ground balls.Â
Brown and Knoebel finished with a goal apiece to pace Elmhurst in the loss.
Annette Stidham totaled a team-leading four ground balls. Knoebel recorded four saves and allowed just one goal in the first 30 minutes.
Megan Keener played the second half in net, surrendering five goals while tallying one save.Â
Drexler and Evans paced Beloit with two goals apiece. Marie Bonine earned the win in goal, allowing two goals while recording seven saves.
Elmhurst plays at Hanover College on March 11.Â
