Women's Lacrosse Team Stumbles at Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. - The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team slipped to 0-2 on the season after stumbling to an 11-3 loss at Hanover College.

With just one goal separating the two squads late in the first half, Hanover (2-3) rattled off nine straight goals to blow the game open and cruise to the eight-goal victory.

Hanover claimed an early 2-0 lead after goals from Rachel Davis and Emma Boomershin, but the Bluejays sliced the lead in half on an Ellen Brown goal with 14:41 left to play in the opening half. The score remained the same until Hanover scored two goals 11 seconds apart. Mallory Fogus scored from free position with 7:32 remaining. Following the draw control, Kinna Laymon scored to give Hanover a 4-1 lead. Boomershin and Mallory Fogus both scored in the final minute of action to give Hanover a 6-1 lead at the half.

Back-to-back goals from Fogus followed by scores from Isabella Miller, Boomershin and Davis gave Hanover an 11-1 lead with 17 minutes left to play. Elmhurst snapped Hanover's goal scoring streak with back-to-back goals from Sam Sepke and Brown to make the final score 11-3. 

Brown led Elmhurst in the loss with two goals and 11 ground balls. Megan Keener made the start in goal and took the loss, surrendering six goals while recording four saves. Grace Knoebel played the second half in net and finished with seven saves while allowing five goals.

Fogus paced Hanover with four goals while Boomershin totaled four points on three goals and an assist. Amanda Mounssa earned the win in goal, allowing three goals while stopping four shots. 

Hanover outshot Elmhurst 30-11 in the contest and had a 37-23 edge in ground balls. 

Elmhurst hosts Benedictine University on Wednesday, March 15, at 4:00 p.m.
