BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team slipped to 6-16 on the season following an 87-60 setback at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Elmhurst (2-11 CCIW) scored the first five points of the contest before Illinois Wesleyan (15-6, 7-5 CCIW) got rolling. Leading by three at 18-15, the Titans used a 17-7 run to take a 13-point lead with just four minutes remaining in the half. Elmhurst faced a 43-29 deficit at the half.
Elmhurst came no closer than a 13-point deficit in the second-half as Illinois Wesleyan lengthened its lead to over 20 points before cruising to the 27-point victory.
The Bluejays struggled with their shooting, hitting just 31.2 percent (17-of-53) of its shots, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from downtown. Derek Dotlic led Elmhurst in the loss, finishing with 19 points and five rebounds
Ryan Patton added 14 points and six boards while
Austin Brown came off the bench to score 10.
Illinois Wesleyan controlled the scoring inside, outscoring Elmhurst 34-12 in the paint. The Titans also converted 18 Elmhurst turnovers into 23 points. The Titans shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the floor in the victory. Andy Stempel paced the Titans with 21 points while Trevor Siebring added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Colin Bonnett added 14 points for the Titans.
Elmhurst plays at North Central College on Saturday, February 11.
