WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team suffered a 92-68 loss at the hands of Wheaton College.
Wheaton (9-11, 5-6 CCIW) broke open a 25-25 game midway through the opening half with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes. The Thunder led 42-32 at the half before pulling away in the second. Wheaton started the second half with a 33-13 run to open up a commanding 30-point lead and blow the game open. Elmhurst came no closer than 22 points for the duration of the contest as the Thunder came away with the 24-point win.
Elmhurst (6-15, 2-10 CCIW) struggled with its shooting, hitting just 34.8 percent (24-of-69) of its shots. The Bluejays hit 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) from downtown.
Derek Dotlich paced Elmhurst in the loss, scoring a team-high 17 points while shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point distance.
Nathan Rogers came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down a team-leading six rebounds.
Brian Kern chipped in with nine points while
Jalen Loving and
Devin Tennant scored eight points apiece.
Wheaton hit 61.1 percent (33-of-54) of its shots from the floor, including 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from downtown. Aston Francis led the way for the Thunder with 20 points while Ricky Samuelson added 18. Trevor Gunter added 16 points and nine rebounds while Kobe Eichelberger added 10 rebounds for the Thunder.
Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, February 8.
