GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Elmhurst volleyball team wrapped up its two-day trip at the Midwest Invitational by dropping contests to Calvin College and Ohio Wesleyan University.
 
Elmhurst opened the day with a three-set loss to sixth-ranked Calvin before closing the tournament with a five-set loss to Ohio Wesleyan.
 
CALVIN 3, ELMHURST 0 – The Bluejays opened the second day of the invitational with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-12 loss to Calvin.
 
Elmhurst struggled to generate points on offense as the Bluejays hit -.022 for the match with 13 kills and 15 errors in 93 swings. Calvin finished the contest hitting .290 with 42 kills and 13 errors in 100 attempts.
 
Alli Rogers led Elmhurst with four kills in the loss while Allie Skowron totaled three kills and three blocks. Amy Schryver registered nine digs while Kelly Townsend totaled six assists.
 
Anna Kamp paced Calvin with 16 kills and 13 digs while Sarah DeVries tallied eight kills and 11 digs. Jenna Lodewyk led the team in assists with 31.
 
OHIO WESLEYAN 3, ELMHURST 2 – Elmhurst slipped to 8-14 on the season after falling in five sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) to Ohio Wesleyan.

Elmhurst grabbed a 2-1 lead after taking the first and third sets, but Ohio Wesleyan (13-5) rallied to take the fourth set and set up a decisive fifth set.
 
The fifth set was tight as the two teams traded points with the score being equal at 10-10. Ohio Wesleyan grabbed a two-point lead at 12-10 and again at 13-11. The Bluejays pulled to within a point at 13-12 after a Hannah Davis kill, but a Brianna La Croix kill set up Ohio Wesleyan with a match point. Elmhurst fought off one match point with a kill from Katie Davis, but Amelia Richardson ended the match with a kill.
 
Elmhurst hit .234 for the match with 64 kills and 23 errors in 175 swings. Alli Rogers powered the Bluejays in the loss with 22 kills while hitting .373. Hannah Davis added 15 kills while Taylor Zurliene and Mel Lundin totaled seven kills apiece. Kelly Townsend tallied 29 assists while Katie Davis totaled 22. Amy Schryver led the squad in digs with 19.
 
Iris Anderson 25 paced Ohio Wesleyan with 25 kills and 15 digs while La Croix tallied 14.
 
Elmhurst plays at North Central College on Tuesday, October 17.
