ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team slid to 2-4 in the CCIW after suffering an 8-1 loss at Augustana College.
Augustana (6-1, 4-0 CCIW) swept the six singles matches and took two of three doubles matches en route to the win.
Elmhurst (2-5 overall) scored its only win of the day at No. 2 doubles when
Chiara Gaudio and
Kathryn Wheeler upended Annie Timm and Morgan Bullen 8-3. At No. 1 doubles, Augustana's Madeline Lombardi and Caitlyn Schaffer downed
Rachel Rettger and
Ysabel Gonzaga 8-0. The Viking's No. 3 duo of Leraaen Abbott and Maleeha Chowdury scored an 8-2 win over Elmhurst's
Meg Simon and
Dacey Maglaque.
In singles play, Schaffer upended Gaudio 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Timm defeated Gonzaga 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Chowdhury downed Rettger 6-3, 7-6 at No. 3 singles while Bullen edged Wheeler 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4. Faith Johnson scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maglaque at No. 5 singles. Margaret Chadick blanked Simon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst travels to Monmouth College on October 8.
