OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Elmhurst volleyball team, ranked 18th in the latest AVCA Division III national poll, slipped to 11-5 on the season following a four-set loss to Trinity University (Texas) at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.
Trinity (13-4) toppled Elmhurst 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 23-25.
Elmhurst hit .261 for the contest, totaling 45 kills and 10 errors in 134 attacks. The Bluejays were also strong at the net, finishing with 13 total blocks in the loss. The Bluejays struggled with their serve and serve receive, committing eight service errors and six reception errors in the loss.
Alli Rogers and
Melissa Nava paced Elmhurst's attack with 10 kills apiece.
Mary Lawrence added nine kills and five blocks while
Hannah Nimrick flirted with a quadruple-double, totaling seven kills, 35 assists, 12 digs and eight blocks.
Mel Lundin added five blocks for the Bluejays while
Amy Schryver led Elmhurst's defense with 19 digs.
Trinity finished the match hitting .211 and totaled just two blocks. Elmhurst struggled to slow the Tigers' Kirby Smith as she finished with a match-high 19 kills and 19 digs in the win. Maggi Linker added 11 kills while Madeline McKay finished with 10 kills and Rebecca Hays chipped in with eight. Sarah Mullens totaled a team-best 21 digs while Erika Edrington tallied a match-high 48 assists.
Elmhurst wraps up the invitational with a pair of matches against top-25 opponents. The Bluejays face 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 2:00 p.m. and conclude the tournament against #19 Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 4:00 p.m.
