ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team wrapped up its own Elmhurst Invitational with a 3-1 record after sweeping Bluffton College 25-12, 25-16, 25-20.
Elmhurst, ranked 18th in the AVCA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll, made quick work of Bluffton (3-1) with the three-set victory. Leading 7-6 in the first set, the Bluejays rattled off 10 straight points behind
Mary Lawrence's serve to blow the set open and take a 17-6 lead before cruising to the 25-12 victory.Â
Elmhurst led wire-to-wire in the second, scoring the first point of the set and building a quick 8-2 lead. Â Elmhurst led by as many as 10 points before pulling away for the 25-16 win.Â
The Bluejays trailed just for the first few points of the third set before grabbing a lead at 3-2 and never looking back. Elmhurst built a five-point cushion before Bluffton pulled to within two points at 22-20. The Bluejays scored the final three points of the set to score the 25-20 win and put the match away.Â
Elmhurst finished the contest hitting .429 with 45 kills and just 12 errors in 77 attempts.
Alli Rogers powered Elmhurst's attack, finishing with 12 kills.
Hannah Davis added 10 kills for Elmhurst while
Alyssa Olson added eight kills.
Hannah Nimrick finished with a match-high 27 assists while
Amy Schryver totaled seven digs. Lawrence finished with five kills and a match high six service aces.
Lauren Weisgarber and Bethany Martini totaled five kills apiece to pace Bluffton in the loss.
Elmhurst takes on Dominican and Wisconsin-Whitewater in Wisconsin on Wednesday, September 7.Â
