CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team upped its record to 4-2-2 overall after scoring a 3-0 shutout victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Sam Johnson netted a pair of goals to lead the Bluejays in the victory while
Andrew Hicks also found the back of the net.
Johnson put the Bluejays on the scoreboard first, netting a goal off a
Lucas Wetherby Jonsson corner kick in the 18th minute of action.
Elmhurst needed less than four minutes into the second half to extend their lead to two goals. Johnson struck for his second goal of the contest in the 49th minute after scorring off an assist from
JD Garnett.
Hicks helped put the game out of reach in the 55th minute with an unassisted goal to give the Bluejays' the 3-0 victory.
Elmhurst outshot IIT 13-4 in the win, including a 9-1 edge in the second half. IIT did not put a shot on goal in the entire contest. The Bluejays enjoyed an 8-0 edge in corner kicks as well.
Nick King recorded the victory in net, notching his second shutout of the season in the process. Alex Kern took the loss in goal for the Scarlet Hawks, surrendering three goals while making six saves.
Elmhurst hosts Simpson College on Monday, September 26.
