Bluejays Fall to Fourth-Ranked Chicago

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's soccer team scored the first goal of the game, but dropped a 4-1 decision to fourth-ranked Chicago.

The Bluejays (3-1-2) took the lead in the 35th minute, netting the first goal against the Maroons (6-0) all season.

JD Garnett received the ball deep on the right side of the field, chipped the ball over a couple of defenders and then made his run towards the middle. He ripped a line drive shot from 20 yards out inside the far post to put Elmhurst ahead 1-0.

Chicago knotted the game at one less than 10 minutes later. A Bluejay turnover gave the ball to Chris Mathis in a dangerous area. He sent a low pass to the middle where David McBroom beat Nick King to the left side.

In the second half, the Maroons scored three times to take control of the game. Sam Drablos, Max Lopez, and Matthew Ko netted tallies as Chicago won 4-1.

The Maroons outshot the Bluejays 17-4, including 8-1 in shots on goal. Elmhurst's Nick King made four saves, while the Bluejays scored on their only shot on goal. Drablos posted a goal and an assist to lead Chicago offensively.

Elmhurst hosts Concordia University (Wis.) on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
