Elmhurst men's basketball coach
John Baines has announced his final three recruits that have made a commitment to attend Elmhurst College and also play basketball for the Bluejays.
"We are absolutely ecstatic with our recruiting class this year," said Baines. "With the graduation of nearly half our team, we recognized that this would be a large recruiting class. Our program's recent success and environment which our players have created have made Elmhurst an exciting destination for recruits. This group of student-athletes has the potential to be one of the best groups ever to come to Elmhurst. There is a combination of raw talent, high character, and solid work ethic with this group that excites me greatly. With a mature group of returners and these additions to our program, we will once again be in position to compete in the CCIW."
Austin Brown - Andover, Kan./H.S./Oklahoma (6-5, 200 lbs. Forward)
Attended Oklahoma University...Earned three varsity letters from Andover High School...earned second-team all-conference honors for two seasons...earned all-state honors during his senior year....served as team captain for two seasons.
Baines on Brown: "Austin is a high energy player will a great skill set at the forward position. He has the ability to rebound his spot well, as well as being a very good shooter with range. He will be coming off a knee injury and, hopefully, his transition into our program be smooth. Austin is a great student and will be a wonderful team player. He has a very bright future as a Bluejay and will compete at his position immediately."
Marquis Carter - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North (5-11, 175 lbs. Guard)
Earned four varsity letters at Waukesha North High School...earned honorable mention all-conference honors during his junior and senior seasons.
Baines on Carter: "Marquis is a dynamic transition guard that can get in the lane, finish at the rim, and distribute the ball. He already has strength and quickness in his game and I only see that developing more in college. Marquis wants to be an integral part of our program and he fits in perfectly. He immediately brings an athletic, hard-working presence to our guard position, as well as a leader type of personality. He is going to be really good at Elmhurst."
Tyler Turner – Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy (6-5, 220 lbs. Forward)
Attended Dillard University last year but did not play basketball...Earned a pair of varsity letters from Providence St. Mel High School...earned all-state honorable mention honors during his junior year while averaging 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds on his team that finished third in state.
Baines on Turner: "Tyler is going to a huge addition to our basketball family. He is an athletic, transition type of player that can play both forward positions. He has mature strength and ability and I see him contributing on the floor quickly. He brings a physical toughness to our team and has the skills to be a top level player in the CCIW. Additionally, Tyler is a good student and high character person. He will fit in perfectly with our players and he has an incredibly bright future as a Bluejay."
