ELMHURST, Ill. - Phoebe LeRoy and
Meghan Keyes combined to score nine goals while leading the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team to a 12-2 victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
LeRoy scored six times while Keyes added three goals and an assist to lead the Bluejays to the 10-goal victory. Elmhurst upped its record to 3-5 in the process.
The Bluejays scored early and often, racing out to a 10-0 goal lead in less than 20 minutes of action.
Natalie Tylka started the scoring less than two minutes into the contest and
Krystyna Kotlinski followed with her second goal of the season just two minutes later to put Elmhurst in front by a pair of goals. Keyes scored her first goal of the gaame just 39 seconds later to give the Bluejays a 3-0 advantage.
LeRoy scored the next three straight Elmhurst goals in a span of 4:17. She scored twice from free position and added another goal off a feed from Keyes. Keyes added back-to-bacl goals just 2:10 apart to put the Bluejays in front 8-0. LeRoy's fourth goal of the contest with 12:06 left in the opening half gave the Bluejays a 9-0 cushion.
Ellen Brown scored with 10:15 left in the half to give Elmhurst a 10-0 lead.
Northwestern's Jordyn Broberg scored off a Molly Repp feed with 7:10 remaining to break Elmhurst's scoring streak and make the score 10-1 at the half.
LeRoy scored her 23rd and 24th goals of the season in the second half as the Bluejays opened up a 12-1 lead. Broberg scored from free position with two seconds remaining to make the final score 12-2.
Elmhurst outshot Northwestern (1-9) 21-10 in the contest and had a 26-19 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays were successful on 14-of-15 clearing attempts and committed just 23 turnovers in the victory.
LeRoy led Elmhurst's attack with six goals on seven shots while also picking up two ground balls. Keyes finished with four points on three goals and an assist. Kotlinski finished with a goal and a team-leading five ground balls.
Grace Knoebel earned the win between the pipes, recording five saves and allowing just two goals.
Broberg was responsible for both of Northwestern's goals and led the team in shots with five. Sydney Werlein recorded three saves in net while taking the loss.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play tomorrow (April 9) by hosting Carthage College at 1:00 p.m.
