Bluejays Falter in Second Half to Titans

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team battled back-and-forth with Illinois Wesleyan for much of the first half before the Titans took over in the second half and scored an 11-4 victory over the Bluejays.
 
Elmhurst (4-11, 0-5 CCIW) struck first as Ellen Brown put the Bluejays on the scoreboard just 2:30 into the contest. Illinois Wesleyan answered back with a Sam Bidlack goal to knot the score at 1-1, but Brown fired home her second goal of the game with 21:47 remaining to put Elmhurst back in front. The Titans pulled even with 18:09 left in the half, but Phoebe LeRoy capitalized on a free position attempt to give Elmhurst a 3-2 lead with 6:51 remaining in the half.
 
Illinois Wesleyan (13-3, 3-2 CCIW) surged back with three goals in a 90-second span. Sara Dust, Clarke Rich and Bidlack all tallied goal to give the Titnas a 5-3 lead with 4:14 reamining. Elmhurst cut the lead in half with just under a minute remaining as LeRoy buried her second goal of the game. The Titans responded though, scoring just 29 seconds later to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
 
The second half was controlled by the Titans as Illinois Wesleyan outshot Elmhurst 14-4. The Bluejays held the Titans at bay for over 10 minutes before Dust scored two goals in a 25-second span to give the Titans a four-goal cushion. Illinois Wesleyan tacked on three goals in the final six minutes to come away with the 11-4 victory.
 
The Titans outshot Elmhurst 28-12 in the contest and had a 31-15 edge in ground balls.
 
Brown and LeRoy accounted for all four of Elmhurst's goals in the loss with two apiece. Grace Knoebel recorded 12 saves in goal for the Bluejays. Knoebel also caused three turnovers and recorded two ground balls.
 
Dust and Rich powered the Titans in the win with three goals apiece. Bidlack added two goals for the Titans while Claire Quist recorded five saves in net for Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Elmhurst wraps up the 2016 season by travelling to the University of Dubuque on Saturday, April 30.
