Keyes Scores Four in Loss to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Meghan Keyes tallied four goals, but it wasn't enough as the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team closed out its 2016 season with a 15-9 loss at the University of Dubuque.
 
Elmhurst (4-12, 0-6 CCIW) started strong, holding a 5-4 lead after the first 21 minutes of action, but Dubuque (11-6, 2-4 CCIW) closed the contest by outscoring Elmhurst 11-4 over the final 39 minutes of action.
 
Dubuque built a 3-1 lead after 12 minutes, but Elmhurst roared with three straight goals to surge in front 4-3. Phoebey LeRoy scored from free position with 16:36 remaining. Just 23 seconds later, Keyes scored her second goal of the game to knot the score at 3-3. Keyes put the Bluejays in front 4-3 with 14:40 remaining after connecting off an assist from LeRoy.
 
Dubuque evened the score with 12 minutes to play, but Ellen Brown capitalized from free position with just under nine minutes remaining to put Elmhurst in front 5-4. Dubuque closed the half with a 3-0 run, scoring three times in the final 8:30 of the half.
 
Dubuque pulled away at the start of the second half, scoring seven straight goals over the first 20 minutes of play to open up a nine-goal cushion. Elmhurst outscored the Spartans 4-1 over the final eight minutes, but came no closer as Dubuque earned the 15-9 victory.
 
Elmhurst was outshot by Dubuque 36-23 in the contest. The Bluejays struggled to get set up on offense, converting just 10-of-24 clearing attempts and turning the ball over 35 times.
 
Keyes led Elmhurst's offense with four goals while LeRoy totaled four points on a pair of goals and two assists. Natalie Tylka added two goals and Ellen Brown scored one. Grace Knoebel recorded 13 saves in goal for the Bluejays.
 
Kelly Wetherald led Dubuque with seven points on five goals and two assists. Bridget Schirmers added three goals while Alora Esparza tacked on two goals. Ambryn Dittmer earned five saves in goal to record the win.
