Big Fourth Quarter Leads Carthage Past Bluejays

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team allowed four fourth-quarter goals in a 10-7 loss to Carthage.
 
The Red Men (7-8, 3-0 CCIW) broke open a three-goal cushion (the game's largest lead) by scoring twice early in the fourth quarter and then traded goals with the Bluejays (4-9, 0-2 CCIW) the rest of the way.
 
Elmhurst started the game off strong, scoring just 1:38 into the contest. Jackson Mandli fired from the top of the circle for his first goal of the season. After Carthage tied the game at one, Matt Westhaver scored on an assist from Dan Curley to put the Bluejays ahead 2-1.
 
Carthage ended the period on a 2-0 run to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter. After the Red Men scored the first goal of the second period, Elmhurst netted two unanswered to tie the game at halftime. Mac Harden and David Fracassa provided the offense for Elmhurst, scoring just a minute apart.
 
After a Carthage penalty bled into the second half, Elmhurst capitalized to take a 5-4 lead. Tyler Dailey became the fifth Bluejay to score and Harden provided the assist. The Red Men broke the tie with 7:27 to go in the period and led 6-5 after 45 minutes.
 
Carthage scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to open up a game-high three goal lead and did not look back, finishing off their third conference victory.
 
Harden finished the game as the only Bluejay with multiple points (two goals, one assist). Westhaver, Fracassa, Mandli, Dailey, and Dan O'Connell all scored once. Nick Bonastia stopped 14 shots in net for Elmhurst.
 
The Red Men led in shots (39-31), ground balls (27-20), and face-offs (13-7), while the teams split the 18 turnovers.
 
Dylan Harris (three goals) and Luke Seydel (two) led the way for Carthage offensively. Ryan Smith made 15 saves in the win.
 
Elmhurst continues CCIW play this Saturday, April 23 when the Bluejays host Augustana at 1:00 p.m. It will also be the program's senior day.
