ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team started strong, but Augustana rallied for a 10-6 victory over the Bluejays at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst (4-10, 0-3 CCIW) built an early 4-2 cushion, but five straight goals for Augustana (10-5, 3-0 CCIW) between the end of the second period and the start of the third period put the Vikings in front for good.

Elmhurst struck first as
Matt Westhaver's stuff shot put the Bluejays in front with 8:50 remaining in the quarter. Augustana tied the score at 1-1 with 36 seconds left in the quarter, but
Dan Curley scooped up a loose ball and ran the length of the field to score his first goal of the season with seven seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Bluejays cashed in on an Augustana penalty early in the second as
Tyler Dailey scored off a
Jackson Mandli feed on an extra-man advantage. Augustana sliced the lead down to 3-2 with 9:37 left following a Brady Welvaert goal, but the Bluejays answered back as Westhaver found the back of the net for the second time to give Elmhurst 4-2 lead with 7:14 remaining in the half.

Augustana closed the half with a flurry as the Vikings score three goals in a 2:50 span to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. Goals from Alexander Crescenti and Nick Zielinski in the third quarter extended the Vikings' lead to 7-4 with 6:52 remaining.Â
Mac Harden cut the deficit down to two with his 28th goal of the season with 3:24 left in the quarter.

Augustana scored on a
Scott Davis goal early in the fourth quarter (11:12) but the Bluejays answered back just nine seconds later.
Carter Meyer scored a clean faceoff win, scooped up the ground ball raced in and scored his second goal of the season to bring the Bluejays back to within a two-goal deficit.

Augustana tacked on an extra-man goal with 6:31 left and added an insurance goal with 3:04 remaining to make the final score 10-6.

Elmhurst outshot the Vikings 35-22 in the contest while Augustana had a 28-21 edge in ground balls. Augustana had a slight 11-9 edge in faceoffs.

Westhaver paced Elmhurst's offense in the loss with two goals and also scooped up a team-leading four ground balls.
Nick Bonastia recorded five saves in goal for the Bluejays.

Nick Gallo led the Vikings with three goals while Davis scored a pair for the Vikings. Jack Peters recorded 13 saves between the pipes to earn the victory in goal for the Vikings.
