ADRIAN, Mich. - Tyler Dailey and
Dan O'Connell scored three goals apiece to lead the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team to a 10-8 road victory at Adrian College.
Elmhurst improved to 4-6 on the season with the win while Adrian remained winless on the season at 0-8.
The Bluejays scored the game's first two goals and never trailed in the contest, answering back each time Adrian cut into the lead.Â
O'Connell started the scoring just 2:01 into the contest with an extra-man goal off a feed from
Jackson Mandli. Jack Cambron made it 2-0 in favor of the Bluejays with a goal with 4:32 left in the first. Adrian scored back-to-back goals to close the quarter and even the score at 2-2.Â
The Bluejays quickly reclaimed the lead on Dailey's first goal of the game less than two minutes into the second quarter. Cody Schmitt answered back for Adrian, tying the game just 14 seconds later, but
Mac Harden tallied his 17th goal of the season with 5:07 left in the quarter to give Elmhurst a 4-3 lead at halftime.
O'Connell scored with 4:39 left in the third to put Elmhurst back in front by two, but Adrian answered right back with a goal just 39 seconds later, pulling to within one in the process.
Elmhurst scored three times in the first 3:34 of the fourth quarter to to turn a one-goal lead into a four-goal cushion. Dailey started the scorind just 1:38 into the quarter. Harden scored less than a minute later to give Elmhurst a 7-4 cushion. O'Connell completed the hat trick just 57 seconds later to put the Bluejays up by four.Â
Adrian surged back with three goal in a span of 1:12 to pull to within one. Matt Scherer struck first with 8:32 left and Jake Waldrup added back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs to cut Elmhurst's lead down to one with 7:20 to play.Â
Dailey finished his hat trick with his third goal of the contest with 4:28 left.
Nathan Klimek tacked on an insurance goal with 3:37 left to give Elmhurst a 10-7 lead. Adrian scored its final goal with 2:33 left to make the final score 10-8.
Elmhurst outshot Adrian 38-35 and totaled a 33-32 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays took advantage of Adrian mistakes, scoring on four of 10 extra-man opportunities.
Dailey and O'Connell led the way for Elmhurst with three goals apiece while Harden totaled four points on two goals and two assists.
Nick Bonastia earned the win in net by totaling 17 saves.
Waldrup paced Adrian in the loss with five points on three goals and two assits. Cody Schmitt and Michael Turner added two goals apiece for the Bulldogs. Brett Farrelly took the loss in the cage despite recording 16 saves.Â
Elmhurst travels to Albion College on Wednesday, April 6.Â
