ALBION, Mich. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team allowed eight first-period goals and could not recover in an 18-11 loss to Albion College.
After being outscored 8-2 in the first 15 minutes, the Bluejays (4-7) scored three of the five second quarter goals, but the Brittons (4-4) put the game away with a 5-1 advantage in the third quarter.
After Albion put home the first two goals of the game,
Tyler Dailey pulled Elmhurst within one with his tenth goal of the year. The Brittons then piled on six consecutive goals to lead 8-1 before David Fraccassa scored the final goal of the period.
Trailing by seven in the second, a goal from
Mac Harden and two from
Dan O'Connell gave Elmhurst some momentum, but the Brittons added one more before halftime to lead 10-5 at the break.
Albion's lead grew to as much as 10 in the second half as they cruised to the victory.
Harden and O'Connell both registered three goals in the game, while Harden added a season-high three assists. Dailey scored twice and joined O'Connell with two assists.
Kalani Flowers led the team with six ground balls, while
Nick Bonastia made 13 saves in the loss.
Cameron Braun's four goals led 11 Albion scorers. Kyle DeCamp scooped up 16 ground balls for the Brittons, while Brad Bogus and Jordan Hempfling combined to stop eight Elmhurst shots.
Albion outshot Elmhurst 52-25 and led the ground ball (39-21) and turnover (10-13) battles. Elmhurst converted on 3-of-6 man-up opportunities.
The Bluejays wrapped up their road swing with a 3-4 record and opens up CCIW play at home against Illinois Wesleyan University next Saturday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m.Â
