ELMHURST, Ill. –
Phoebe LeRoy's seven-goal performance led the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team to a 10-5 win over Loras.
Tied at three in the first half, the teams stopped play for a 1:20 lightning delay. Elmhurst (2-4) outscored Loras 7-2 after the delay to take the victory.
The two teams traded goals in the first half and Elmhurst took a 5-4 lead into halftime. Loras jumped out ahead on three different occasions, but LeRoy knotted the score each time by scoring the first three Elmhurst goals. With 4:51 left in the half, lightning brought the game to a halt for over an hour.
Loras scored the first goal after the stoppage, but Natalie Tykla quickly tied the score with her first goal of the game. Elmhurst took its first lead with another tally from LeRoy and the Bluejays led 5-4 at halftime.
Elmhurst continued its first-half momentum with a pair of goals from Tylka and LeRoy to take a three-goal lead at 7-4. After Loras pulled within two, LeRoy continued her dominating performance with two more goals to extend Elmhurst's largest lead of the game. From there, Elmhurst cruised to the 10-5 win.
LeRoy and Tylka scored all ten goals for the Bluejays, while
Theresa Breen added an assist.
Grace Knoebel made 11 saves and allowed just five goals.
Kaitlyn Kutsch scored three times for Loras to lead its attack. Ashley McGee made seven saves in the loss.
Elmhurst travels to Adrian College on April 2 for a 1:00 p.m. start. Â
