FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Phoebe LeRoy scored for the fifth consecutive game, but the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team closed its two-game North Carolina road trip with a 13-1 loss to Methodist University.
Methodist (7-5) scored just over four minutes into the contest on a Bianca Terenzi goal. Methodist added four more goals over the next 15 minutes to take a 5-0 lead and then blew the game open with five goals over the final 6:34 of the first half to lead 10-0 at halftime.
A Kaelyn Holland goal early in the second gave Methodist an 11-0 lead, but LeRoy ended the shutout with an unassisted goal with 24:51 left to play. Methodist tacked on two more goals to pull away for the 13-1 victory.
Methodist outshot Elmhurst 35-4 and had a 32-9 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst struggled with turnovers, giving the ball away 26 times and completing just 9-of-26 clears.
Madison Ronelli led Methodist with four goals while Emily Brennen added five assists. Jannelle Grant and Molly O'Hara combined for 60 minutes in goal. O'Hara recorded two saves for Methodist while Grant earned the win for a scoreless first half.
Grace Knoebel registed double-digits in saves in net for the Bluejays. Knoebel stopped 10 shots in the loss.
Elmhurst hosts Loras College on March 30.
