Box ScoreHANOVER PARK, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule with a 7-2 loss to Calvin College.
Ava Kolman went 2-0 on the day for the Bluejays, taking her match at No. 1 singles and teaming with
Rachel Rettger for a victory at No. 1 doubles.Â
In doubles play, Kolman and Rettger's 8-2 win put the Bluejays out in front. Calvin notched the next two victories to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. Elmhurst's
Hannah Vaselaney and
Chiara Gaudio fell to Jessica Bouma and Kari Kroeze 8-3 and Calvin's Liz Turner and Lark Foote defeated the Bluejay tandem of Camile Knapik-Balch and
Tori Liewergen 8-5.Â
Calvin took five of the six singles matches to seal the 7-2 win. Kolman's victory at No. 1 came over Ellie Benzel by a 6-4, 6-2 score. The Knights cruised to victories at No. 1 4 (Micaela Seazzu over Liewergen 6-1, 6-1) and No. 5 (Alyssa Bowman over Vaselaney 6-1, 6-0). Calvin's Kroeze followed with a 6-3, 6-2 over Knapik-Balch at No. 6. The Bluejays lost two tight matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Gaudio fell to Claire Spoelhof 6-3, 6-4 and Rettger dropped a three setter to Bouma 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.Â
Next up, the Bluejays travel to Orlando, Fla. for four matches on their annual spring break trip. Elmhurst will kick off the trip with a matchup against George Fox on Sunday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m.
