ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team upped its record to 12-4 on the season after downing the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 in the first match of the Elmhurst College Invitational.
Elmhurst broke a 12-12 tie in the opening set with a 9-1 run to take a commanding 21-13 lead before finishing off the set at 25-19. The Bluejays raced out to a quick 9-3 lead in the second set and never trailed, leading by as many as 11 points en route to the nine-point win. Elmhurst build a quick six-point lead at 13-7 in the third set before Platteville mounted a late run and pulled to within two points at 23-21. A service error and an attack error on the Pioneers handed the Bluejays the set and the match.
The Bluejays hit .239 for the match with 43 kills and 16 errors in 113 attempts.
Alli Rogers and
Hannah Nimrick each reached double figures in kills to pace the Bluejays in the victory. Rogers pounded down a match-high 13 kills to go with seven digs while Nimrick tallied her third consecutive triple-double with 10 kills, 25 assists and 10 digs.
Mary Lawrence narrowly missed double-digit kills, finishing with nine.
Shannon Burns added six kills while
Hannah Davis added a team-leading four blocks.
Amy Schryver led the squad in digs with 17.
Platteville (7-8) finished the match hitting .061 with 28 kills and 21 errors in 115 swings. Rachel Ambroch totaled eight kills and 11 digs to lead the Pioneers. Lauren Grady chipped in with six kills.
Elmhurst, ranked 16th in the latest AVCA Division III poll takes on 10th-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
