ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team continued its extended road swing with a 3-0 loss to the University of Dubuque.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans (4-2-1) took a lead over the Bluejays (1-6-1) in the 65th minute on a Gonzalo Hernandez shot to the upper left corner.
Then, in the final five minutes, Hernandez put the game out of reach by scoring twice. He made it 2-0 on a breakaway in the 86th minute and then completed his hat trick off of a corner kick just 80 second later.
The Spartans out shot the Bluejays 14-7 and put 12 of their 14 shots on goal.
Nick King posted a season high 9 saves. The Spartans' Riley Jensen stopped four shots in recording the shutout.
Elmhurst travels to the Illinois Institute of Technology next Wednesday, September 30 for a 7:00 p.m. start.
