WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team slipped to 7-2 on the season after suffering a three-set defeat at 16th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. 

Elmhurst, ranked 14th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, fell 25-21, 25-19, 25-19. Whitewater improved to 9-1 with the victory.

The Bluejays started strong in the opening set, building a 13-9 before Whitewater roared back. The Warhawks ripped off an 11-0 run to build a 20-13 lead. Elmhurst pulled to within three points at 23-20 before the Warhawks put the set away at 25-21.

With the score knotted at 7-7 in the second set, the Warhawks used an 11-3 run to surge in front 18-10 before putting the set away at 25-19.

The score was even at 10-10 in the third before Whitewater used a 10-5 run to grab a 20-15 lead and pull away for the set and the match.

Elmhurst hit .101 for the match with 34 kills and 22 errors in 119 attempts. Alli Rogers powered the attack with 11 kills. Olivia Parks added eight kills while Mary Lawrence added six for the Bluejays. Hannah Nimrick totaled 22 assists and eight digs in the loss while Amy Schryver led the squad in digs with 14.

Whitewater finished the contest hitting .234 with 36 kills and 11 errors in 107 swings. Lauren Pfeifer and Jessica Sabey totaled eight kills apiece to pace the Warhawks in the win. Courtney Wagner added seven kills while Brittany Robinson finished with 17 digs. Staci Hasler added a match-high 30 assists for the Warhawks.

Elmhurst returns to action this weekend at the Carthage College Tournament.
