Augustana (19-6, 6-3 CCIW) scored first, taking advantage of an Elmhurst error to plate an unearned run in the third inning. Trace Gingerich singled to right field to drive in Danny Fifer and put the Vikings in front 1-0.

Elmhurst (7-14, 2-7 CCIW)  answered back immediately as the Bluejays banged out four straight singles on only four pitches in the bottom of the third inning to even the score. Zach Tsiodras' single to center drove in A.J. Compton to even the score. A fielder's choice grounder from Greg Struck put Elmhurst in front 2-1 and Ben Havel came in to score on a double play ground ball to give Elmhurst a 3-1 cushion.

The two-run lead was all Modesitt needed as he only allowed two runners to reach second base for the next five innings. Modesitt finished the contest allowing just one unearned run and six hits. He walked one while striking out two.  Justin Theisen pitched a perfect ninth inning to record the save, striking out a pair of Vikings in the process.

Kevin Hodgeman suffered the loss for the Vikings, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) in seven innings of work. He walked one while striking out nine.

Havel and Tsiodras finished with two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays at the plate. Gingerich recorded three hits for Augustana, finishing with half of his team's total hits.
