ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team scored its second straight by defeating Illinois Wesleyan University 11-5.

It was a tale of two halves as the Bluejays raced out 10-1 lead at the half. Illinois Wesleyan outscored the Bluejays 4-1 in the second half to make the final score 11-5.

Elmhurst (8-7, 2-3 CCIW) started quickly as
Phoebe LeRoy won the opening draw control and raced in, firing home the game's first goal just nine seconds into the contest.

Meghan Keeyes scored off a
Nikki Togami feed just over a minute later to put the Bluejays in front 2-0. LeRoy scored from free position 30 seconds later to give Elmhurst a three-goal cushion.

Ilinois Wesleyan got on the scoreboard with 21:29 left as Brenda Martinez fired home a goal. Elmhurst responded by closing the half seven straight goals. Keyes, Togami and
Aja Brown all scored from free position over a six-minute span to put Elmhurst in front 6-1. Brown shoveled home a rebound with 6:23 left to bring Elmhurst's lead up to six at 7-1. Togami, Keyes and LeRoy all tallied unassisted goals over the final 3:30 of the first half to put the Bluejays in front 10-1 at the break.

Illinois Wesleyan's Abby Kushina scored a pair of goals just 43 seconds apart to start the second half and cut Elmhurst's lead down to seven. LeRoy tallied her fourth goal of the game for the Bluejays with 26:06 remaining, but it would be Elmhurst's final goal of the contest.

Maisie Cox scored from free position with 23:43 remaining to bring Elmhurst's lead down to seven, but the Bluejays limited the Titans to just one goal for the duration of the match to earn the 11-5 victory.

Elmhurst outshot Illinois Wesleyan 30-24 but the Titans had a 30-22 edge on ground balls. The Bluejays converted 4-of-10 attempts from free position, while Illinois Wesleyan scored on only 2-of-11 attempts from free position.

LeRoy led the Bluejays with four goals, three draw controls and two ground balls in the win. Keyes added three goals, three draw controls and three ground balls. Togami finished with three points on two goals and an assist while Brown tallied a pair of goals in the win.

Grace Knoebel was solid in goal for the Bluejays, earning the victory to improve to 8-7 on the season. Knoebel recorded 11 saves in the contest, including several point-blank opportunities for the Titans, while allowing just four goals.
Kushina led the Titans in the loss with three goals. Claire Quist took the loss in net, allowing 11 goals while recording 16 saves and six ground balls.
