Men's Lacrosse Team Can't Hold Off Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team could not stop a late surge from Augustana, falling to the Vikings 15-13. 

Elmhurst (6-8, 1-3 CCIW) raced out to a five-goal lead, scoring give times in the first eight minutes. Tyler Dailey scored a pair of goals while Jacob Cambron, Jackson Mandli and Nick Klenck all added a goal in the Bluejays' run. 

Augustana (11-3, 3-0 CCIW) responded with nine straight goals, scoring a goal near the end of the opening quarter, six goals in the second and two at the start of the third quarter to build a 9-5 lead. 

Elmhurst stopped the Vikings' run with back-to-back goals from Mandli and Klenck to pull to within two. Augustana's Kevin Gleason scored to put the VIkings back up by three at 10-7. Elmhurst scored the final three goals of the third quarter to pull even at 10-10. Matt Westhaver, Kyle Kritzer and Cambron all found the back of the net for the Bluejays near the end of the third quarter to pull Elmhurst even.

Scott Davis and Jared Hawkins scored early in the fourth quarter to put Augustana back in front by two goals, but Elmhurst scored three straight to retake the lead. Klenck, Dan Curley and Cambron all tallied goals' in the Bluejays' three-goal outburst. 

Elmhurst's lead did not last as Davis scored back-to-back goals for the Vikings to give Augustana a 14-13 lead. Nick Zielniski tacked on an insurance goal to give the Vikings a two-goal victory.

Elmhurst outshot Augustana 38-29 and had a 32-28 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst won 22 faceoffs to Augustana's 11 faceoff victories. 

Klenck tallied three goals and an assist to pace the Bluejays' in the loss. Cambron completed his own hat trick by finishing with three goals. Dailey registered three points on two goals and an assist while Mandli totaled two goals. Kritzer and Westhaver both finished with a goal and an assist to total two points apiece. Mal Euson also registered multiple points with two two assists.

Nick Bonastia took the loss in net for Elmhurst, stopping eight shots and recording five ground balls. Brandon Bethron won 22-of-33 faceoffs and tallied a team-leading 13 ground balls.

Davis paced Augustan in the win with six goals and an assist. Zielinski finished with five points on four goals and an assist while Gleason totaled six points on two goals and four assists.Jack Peters earned the win in goal, stopping nine shots for the Vikings. 

Elmhurst wraps up the regular season by hosting the University of Dubuque on Saturday, April 25.
