Men's Lacrosse Team Downed By Carthage

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team slipped to 6-7 overall following a 15-5 loss to Carthage College at Langhorst Field.
 
Elmhurst (1-2 CCIW) trailed by only three at the half, but Carthage (11-3, 2-0 CCIW) outscored the Bluejays 9-2 in the second half to pull away for the victory.
 
Mal Euson scored just 2:20 into the contest to put Elmhurst in front with an early lead. The Bluejays' lead didn't last long as Timothy Francis scored back-to-back goals just 2:15 apart to give Carthage a 2-1 cushion after one quarter.

Tyler Dailey scored less than a minute into the second quarter to even the score at 2-2, but Carthage scored the next four straight goals to build a 6-2 lead. Elmhurst's Nick Klenck scored just before the half off an assist from Jacob Cambron to make the score 6-3 at halftime.

Carthage stormed out in the second half, scoring seven straight goals, including five in the third quarter to blow the game open with a 13-3 lead.  Matt Westhaver scored a pair of goals sandwiched around Carthage goals from Luke Seydel and John Salerno to make the final score 15-5.
 
Carthage outshot Elmhurst 39-21 in the contest and had a 35-27 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst struggled with its control, turning the ball over 29 times while Carthage gave the ball away just 17 times.
 
Cambron finished with three points on three assists to lead Elmhurst's offense. Westhaver added a pair of goals while Klenck and Dailey totaled a goal and an assist apiece. Jake Acevedo took the loss in goal, recording 12 saves in the process.
 
Francis, Seydel, Dylan Harris and Jared Ferrell led Carthage with three goals apiece. Seydel added three assists to total six points while Harris totaled five points with two assists.  Ryan Smith played 51 minutes in goal to earn the win, recording a pair of saves for the Red Men.
 
Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Saturday, April 18.
