BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team had its four-game win-streak snapped in a 16-4 road loss at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Illinois Wesleyan (9-4, 2-0 CCIW) raced out to a quick three-goal lead by scoring three times in the first two minutes. Alex Lambert scored less than a minute into the contest and Michael Julius scored 20 seconds later to stake the Titans to a 2-0 lead. Tim Smith tallied a goal 32 seconds after Julius' score to put the Titans up by three. Smith scored with 3:35 left in the first to put the Titans in front by four before Elmhurst (6-6, 1-1 CCIW) cracked the scoreboard.
Jackson Mandli ended Elmhurst's scoring drought with a goal late in the opening quarter.
Jackson MandliIllinois Wesleyan scored three straight goals to open the second quarter before Mandli scored for the Bluejays, making the score 7-2. Julius and Lambert both tallied goals for the Titans late in the second quarter to make the score 9-2 at the break.
The Titans continued to pull away in the third, scoring three goals before
Dan Curley fired home a goal for the Bluejays. The Titans outscored the Bluejays 4-1 over the game's final 20 minutes to score the 12-goal victory.
Mal Euson tallied Elmhurst's final goal late in the third quarter.
Illinois Wesleyan outshot Elmhurst 44-29 and had a 30-27 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst also turned the ball over 23 times in the contest while the Titans gave the ball away 17 times.
Mandli scored two goals to pace Elmhurst in the loss while Euson and Curley registered a goal apiece. Jacob Cambron added an assist for Elmhurst.
Brandon Bethran won 12-of-22 faceoffs and tallied 11 ground balls for Elmhurst.
Nick Bonastia took the loss in goal for Elmhurst, tallying eight saves and four ground balls.
Lambert powered the Titans' offense, scoring five times and tallying a pair of assists to finish with seven points. Julius and Evan Mok-Lamme totaled three goals apiece while James Maibuecher and Smith finished with two scores each. Julius added three assists to total six points in the win. Steven Laduzinsky played three quarters in goal and earned the win, recording eight saves and one ground ball.
Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Wednesday, April 15.
