EUREKA, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team totaled 10 hits but it wasn't enough as the Bluejays fell 11-7 at Eureka College.
Eureka (2-9) scored three runs in the first and added four runs in both the third and fourth innings en route to the four-run victory.
Elmhurst started strong as
Brandon Kressner smacked a solo home run in the first inning to put Elmhurst in front 1-0.
Eureka answered back in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs with Trevor Zeibert delivering the key blow, a two-run homer.Â
Elmhurst took advantage of a pair of Eureka errors in the third inning to send nine batters to the plate and score five runs, taking a 6-3 lead in the process.

Greg Struck all knocked in runs for the Bluejays in the inning.Â
Elmhurst's lead was short lived as Eureka answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Ray Vogel singled home a run and then scored on a Trevor Froehling double. Seth Aydt followed with a two-run homer to left field to put Eureka in front 7-6.
The Red Devils cashed in on an Elmhurst error in the fourth to score four runs (three unearned) while extending their lead to 11-6. The Bluejays added a run in the seventh but came no closer as the team suffered its eighth straight defeat.
Havel sparked Elmhurst's offense in the loss, finishing 4-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.Â
Aydt finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs to pace Eureka at the plate. Zeibert and Vogel each drove in two for the Red Devils.
Tyler Hofmann made the start for Elmhurst and took the loss, surrendering nine hits and eight earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.Â
Elmhurst resumes CCIW play this weekend by playing a doubleheader at Wheaton College on Friday, April 3.Â
