WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team split a doubleheader at Wheaton College, winning 4-0 behind a solid pitching performance from
Justin Theisen before falling 6-0 in the night cap.
Elmhurst moved to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the CCIW with the split.
ELMHURST 4, WHEATON 0 - Elmhurst snapped an eight-game skid with a 4-0 shutout win over the Thunder.Â

Justin TheisenNick Cusumano broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning by launching his second homer of the season to right field.Â
Theisen made the one-run stand up through eight innings until the Bluejays tacked on three insurance runs.
Greg Struck started the scoring by cracking a solo home run to left. Elmhurst took advantage of a pair of Wheaton errors that allowed
Reagan McReynolds to score. After loading the bases with two outs,
Brandon Kressner drew a walk to force in a run and give Elmhurst a 4-0 lead.
Theisen (2-2) worked into the ninth inning, allowing just five hits and three walks over 8.1 innings of work. He struck out eight while keeping the Thunder off the scoreboard and picking up his second victory of the season.
Ben Modesitt entered in the ninth and induced Johnny Peltz to hit into a game-ending double play to end the contest.Â

WHEATON 6, ELMHURST 0 - Elmhurst was limited to only six hits by Wheaton's Michael Kaufman while falling 6-0 to the Thunder in the night cap.
Wheaton collected nine hits and raced out to an early lead in the second inning on Matt Krause's solo homer. An Elmhurst error added a second run for the Thunder later in the inning.Â
Wheaton tacked on a run in the third, another in the fifth and two in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead.Â
The Bluejays had runners on base in each of the first eight innings, but couldn't come up with a big hit when needed. Elmhurst finished the game just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.Â
Ben Havel collected two of Elmhurst's six hits in the loss.
Jeff Guzzi (1-2) took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering seven hits and four runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings of work. He walked one while striking out three.Â
Kaufman limited Elmhurst to just six hits in 7.2 innings pitched. He walked seven and fanned five. Nick Johnson and Ty Hoeksema combined to pitch 1.1 perfect innings in relief.
Elmhurst hosts the Thunder in the rubber game of the three-game series, tomorrow (April 4) at 1:00 p.m.
