Brown Helps Women's Lacrosse Team Win Fourth Straight

LISLE, Ill. - Aja Brown tallied three goals to propel the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team to its fourth consecutive victory, a 6-5 win at Benedictine University.

After a 4-4 score after 30 minutes, Brown scored a pair of second-half goals while Elmhurst (4-4) limited Benedictine (0-8) to just one goal in the second half.

The first half was back-and-forth and even at four at the half. Benedictine scored just 1:38 into the contest on Gabby Rowe's sixth goal of the season. The Bluejays quickly tied the game less than three minutes later on Nikki Togami's free position goal. 

Elmhurst went in front on Phoebe LeRoy's 12th goal of the season with 22:42 left in the opening half. Rowe scored the equalizer for the Eagles less than two minutes later to make the score 2-2. Brown scored her first goal of the game from free position with 16:18 remaining and Meghan Keyes added a goal with 11:42 left to put the Bluejays in front 4-2. 

Becca Gullett scored back-to-back goals for the Eagles in the final eight minutes to even the score at 4-4.

The game remained tied until Brown netted her second goal of the game of an assist from LeRoy with 22:27 remaining. Just over five minutes later, Brown completed her hat trick, tallying her third goal of the game of an assist from Keyes.

Benedictine cut the lead in half on Gullett's third goal of the game with 7:52 left, but the Bluejays were able to run out the remainder of the clock, killing a penalty in the process. 

Elmhurst outshot Benedictine 17-10 and the Bluejays were successful on 9-of-11 clears. The Bluejays also won six draw controls to Benedictine's three. The Eagles had a 17-15 edge in ground balls. 

Brown sparked the Bluejays' offense with three goals and two ground balls. Keyes and LeRoy finished with two points apiece with each palyer tallying a goal and an assist. LeRoy also caused three turnovers in the victory.

Grace Knoebel earned the win in net for the Bluejays, recording three saves while improving to 4-4.

Gullett totaled three goals to lead Benedictine while Rowe scored two. Hannah Smith fell to 0-8 in net for the Eagles, recording five saves while allowing six goals.

Elmhurst hosts Muskingum on Sunday, March 29, at 8:30 a.m.
