Women's Lacrosse Team Wins Fifth Straight

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team won its fifth consecutive contest by hammering Muskingum University 15-3 at Langhorst Field.

The cold and wind didn't slow down Elmhurst as the Bluejays remained red-hot on offense, scoring early and often. 

Elmhurst (5-4) scored the first 11 goals of the contest and led 12-1 at the break en route to the 12-goal victory.

Phoebe LeRoy needed just 18 seconds to win the opening draw, race in and score, giving Elmhurst a quick 1-0 lead. LeRoy, Megan Lees, Aja Brown and Megan Keyes all tallied multiple goals over the game's first 25 minutes while the Bluejays raced out to an 11-goal lead.

Muskingum (0-6) broke the shutout late in the first half on an Ashley Adams goal, but LeRoy scored her fifth goal of the half with 1:57 left to give the Bluejays a 12-1 lead at halftime.

Keyes and LeRoy tallied goals midway through the second half to stake the Bluejays to a 14-1 cushion. Adams added back-to-back goals for Muskingum late in the half, but Keyes scored on an assist from Jamie Lawinger to make the final score 15-3 in favor of the Bluejays.

Elmhurst dominated the contest from the start, outshooting Muskingum 32-16, including a 21-8 advantage in the first half. The Bluejays also enjoyed an 18-9 edge in ground balls and were successful on 12-of-13 clearing attempts.

LeRoy powered Elmhurst's offense in the win, scoring six goals on just nine shots. She also won three draw controls for the Bluejays. Keyes finished with five points in the victory, tallying four goals and adding an assist while also scooping up four ground balls. Brown also recorded a hat trick, finishing with three goals and three ground balls. Lees added two goals for the Bluejays while Lawinger tallied an assist.

Grace Knoebel improved to 5-4 in net for the Bluejays, allowing just three goals while recording seven saves.

Adams accounted for all three of Muskingum's goals to lead the Muskies in the loss. Samantha Abrahamson took the loss in goal, surrendering 16 goals while recording 10 saves.

Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m.
