MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Phoebe LeRoy recorded her second consecutive hat trick while helping the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team earn its second straight victory in an 8-6 road win at Cornell College.

Elmhurst (2-4) raced out to a 5-0 lead and then held off a second-half surge from Cornell (0-7) to earn the victory.

Nikki Togami needed just little time to put the Bluejays on the scoreboard. She struck just 1:03 into the contest to give Elmhurst a quick 1-0 lead. LeRoy found the back of the next just 2:30 later to stake the Bluejays to a two-goal lead.

Meghan Keyes scored from free position with 18:15 left to give Elmhurst a 3-0 lead. Togami added back-to-back goals just 1:40 apart to put Elmhurst in front 5-0 with 8:43 left in the opening half.

Cornell's Kelly Oeltjenbruns scored with 5:15 left to cut Elmhurst's lead to 5-1 at halfime.
Cornell started quickly in the second half as Shannen Van Alstine scored back-to-back goals in the first seven minutes to trim Elmhurst's lead down to two.

Phoebe LeRoyElmhurst ended Cornell's run with an
Aja Brown goal with 19:58 remaining. Van Alstine netted her third goal of the game just 78 seconds late to slice the Bluejays' lead back to two at 6-4.

The Bluejays responded immediately, as Krystyna Kotlnski scored from free position less than a minute later. LeRoy netted her second goal of the game with 7:12 left to put the Bluejays in front 8-4.

Maren Elnes and Emily Whitfield scored for Cornell in the final seven minutes to make the final score 8-6.

Cornell outshot Elmhurst 22-19 in the contest, including a 15-9 edge in the second half. The Bluejays had a 23-18 edge in ground balls while both teams won eight draw controls.

LeRoy paced Elmhurst's offense, finishing with three goals while winning six draw controls. Togami added two goals and five ground balls while Keyes totaled two points with a goal and an assist.
Grace Knoebel earned the win net for Elmhurst by stopping 10 shots and recording four ground balls.

Van Alstine led Cornell with three goals while Oeltjenbruns finished with two points on a goal and an assist. Ebele Bay-Coffie took the loss in goal, allowing eight goals while recording seven saves.

Elmhurst will look for its third straight win when the squad travels to Loras College, tomorrow.
