AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team closed its spring break trip to Florida by falling to top-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 7-3.
A six-run second sinning sparked Whitewater (5-1) to the victory. The Warhawks strung together six hits in the inning and took advantage of a pair of walks and an Elmhurst error to take a quick 6-0 lead.
Elmhurst (5-6) scored a run in the sixth on Kalvin Thongchamluensouk's RBI single to left field. The Bluejays had the bases loaded with one out but were unable to push home any additional runs.
Whitewater scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-1 lead. The Bluejays scored their final two runs of the contest in the eighth on
A.J. Compton's two-run double.
Elmhurst finished with nine hits in the loss with
Zach Tsiodras accounting for three.
Ivan Nevarez suffered the loss for the Bluejays and fell to 0-1 on the season. He allowed 12 hits and six earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. He walked three while striking out one.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play on Saturday, March 28, by hosting Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m.
