AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team slipped to 5-5 on the season following a 17-6 loss to Westminster College (Mo.) on the Bluejays' road trip to Florida.
Westminster (7-1) scored twice in the bottom of the first to grab an early lead. Westminster tacked on two runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead before Elmhurst got on the scoreboard.
Nick Cusumano put Elmhurst on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the sixth, but Westminster answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame to open up an 8-1 advantage.
Westminster combined to score nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out reach.
Greg Struck led Elmhurst's offense in the loss, finishing with three hits and two RBI.
Brandon Kressner added a pair of hits while
Zach Tsiodras,
James Wick,
Matt Conroy and Cusumano each drove in a run for the Bluejays.
Ryan Millan suffered the loss from the mound, dropping to 0-2 on the season in the process. Millan allowed eight hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. He walked one while fanning two.
Elmhurst closes out its road trip by facing the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, March 24.
