MAUSTON, Wis. - The Elmhurst baseball team scored its first victories of the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Northland College. The Bluejays blanked the Lumberjacks 8-0 in game one and finished the sweep with a convincing 18-9 win in game two.
ELMHURST 8, NORTHLAND 0 - Elmhurst's
Justin Theisen and
Daryl Rivera combined for a one-hit shutout of Northland in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Theisen tossed seven innings and allowed just one hit while walking six and striking out five. Rivera pitched two perfect innings of relief, facing the minimum six batters and fanning one batter.
The Bluejays grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on
Ben Havel's RBI double. The Bluejays tacked on a pair of runs in the third on a Zack Tsiodras two-run single. Elmhurst plated a pair of runs in the fifth on two sacrifice flies. Tsiodras singled home a run in the seventh and the Bluejays added two additional sacrifice flies to earn the eight-run victory.

A.J. Compton and Havel collected three hits apiece in the win. Tsiodras finished 3-for-3 with four RBI while Compton scored three runs and drove in one.
Brandon Kressner also scored three runs for the Bluejays.
ELMHURST 18, NORTHLAND 9 - Elmhurst banged out 23 hits while breezing to an 18-9 win in game two of the doubleheader.
The Bluejays scored in five different innings, including multiple runs in four frames The Bluejays scored eight in the first, four in the fifth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh and a run in the eighth. ,
Compton, Havel and
Matt Conroy led Elmhurst's hit parade, finishing with four hits each in the victory. Havel drove in a team-leading three runs while Compton scored four runs and drove in two. Conroy scored three times and drove in a run while
Mike Rostine collected a pair of hits and scored three runs in he win.
Jeff Guzi earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just six hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. He walked one while striking out six.
Elmhurst takes on MSOE on Sunday, March 15, in the final game of a three-game road trip to Wisconsin.
